What inspired you to start a career in interior design?

Well, I’ve always been interested in design and years back I began working at the Brunschwig & Fils and Kravet fabric showroom. Being surrounded by beautiful textiles all day really fueled the fire and after about four years there I decided to make the leap. I worked for a short time with John Bossard, a fantastic designer who was previously based here in Charlotte, and then went out on my own in 2014 and haven’t looked back.

How would you describe your design style?

My personal design style is colorful and collected. I love a good high/ low mix and interesting juxtapositions. I am also a sucker for beautiful textiles like vintage Suzani’s. But when I’m working for a client my focus is always on what they’re drawn to and the style they want to reflect in their home.

What room is your favorite to design?

I love creating a home office or library space that can switch gears and become the perfect happy hour spot to enjoy a cocktail when the work day winds down. Setting the scene with a pair of cool chairs and a bar cart with some interesting accessories is right up my alley.

You recently used Coley Home Henry and Charles Crown Beds for a client’s beach house! Can you walk us through the design process? How did the beach influence your design process?

This project was a fun one because it was with a client I’ve worked with many times before. It’s a guest house at his property at the beach. So it felt right to bring in some fun colors and patterns that referenced the beach and for this room with its shades of blues, more specifically the ocean. I found a great Thibaut wallpaper in a fun palm print that packed a lot of punch. The clean lines of the Henry crown bed where the perfect silhouette against all of that pattern. And the natural colored linen headboard was just the right neutral for the space. I wanted it to feel cool and airy like the perfect antidote to a hot summer day.

What is the most inspiring place you have traveled?

Barcelona for all of the colorful and quirky Gaudi inspired design. I love the overall liveliness of the Spanish people and their approach to living. My husband and I were plotting how we could cancel our return flight home when we visited years ago! Also, New Orleans for many of the same reasons. I love the laissez-faire, come-as-you-are attitude of New Orleans.

I love the creativity and music that flows through the city at all hours. And also the beautiful patina of many of the old buildings and homes in the city speaks to my love of imperfect and interesting pieces.

If you were to put a funny reminder on our boudoir pillow for your husband, what would it be?

Not my circus, not my monkeys (I wouldn’t say this a direct message for my husband, but I just love this phrase)

What is your favorite summer drink?

I’m a Year round Chardonnay lover. Hello Rombauer!

What is your favorite restaurant in Charlotte?

Barcelona is always delicious and lively
